The AOS 93 School Committee is currently conducting an extensive search for a superintendent to replace Superintendent Steven Bailey who, after six years, stepped down last spring to take a new job as executive director of the Maine School Management Association. Jim Hodgkin was hired by the AOS 93 Board last spring to serve as interim superintendent for the 2017-2018 school year.
AOS 93 serves approximately 1,550 students from Bremen, Bristol, Damariscotta, Jefferson, Newcastle, Nobleboro, and South Bristol. There are three K-8 community schools, one PreK-8 community school, and a K-8 CSD school, each with its own school board, principal and budget. There are also school boards and budgets for the three towns who tuition grade 9-12 students to area high schools. The combined district budget is just over $22 million.
Interviews by a sub-committee of the AOS 93 Board will take place in late March or April with the hopes of making an announcement shortly thereafter. The search process will include input from community members, parents, and AOS 93 staff members obtained through an online survey. The survey is available at www.aos93.org and will be accepted through Friday, February 23, 2018. Paper copies of the survey are available at the Central Office, 767 Maine Street, Damariscotta. The AOS 93 Board plans to have a full time superintendent in place by July 1, 2018.
